UFG History
For many years, Montreal-based Utex Fashion Group has been offering quality apparel to the North American marketplace. Its divisions—Utex Men’s Outerwear, Utex Ladies' Outerwear, Hilary Radley® designer coats and jackets, and Menswear – have long been recognized for the value and consistency they represent. The Utex family is proud of the reputation it has earned for its integrity, reliability and an innovative sense of fashion.

In 1943, brothers Irving and Harry Gurberg founded the company which would become Utex Corporation. Housed in a small bicycle shop on the main street of Victoriaville, Quebec, Utility Textile Industries Incorporated grew quickly. Soon the bicycle shop location was abandoned in favor of a larger space at the town’s former biscuit factory. Even the local indoor skating rink was enlisted as a storage facility during the warmer months of the year!

The first items produced by the company were the “Utexans”, men’s sportshirts with a western flair. This frontier image aptly reflected the philosophy of the new company: roll up your sleeves and get it done. Ingenuity was the rule of the day and obstacles were overcome one by one. Large rolls of fabric had to be transported daily. No truck? Not a problem. The top of the boss’s convertible was lowered and voilà! A truck. This spirit of co-operative effort remains a mainstay of the company, and people who sign on tend to remain valued members of the Utex family for many years.
